An Open Letter to the Family of Paul Harvey
Dear Mr. Harvey,
I just read this morning of your Dad’s passing last night. My thoughts are with you at this trying time.
I did not know Paul Harvey, but as did millions of others like me, I considered him a friend. A friend who came to me at my house or my car every weekday morning at 7:30 on the dot to tell me GOOD MORNING! And to fill me in on what had happened in the world overnight and what was happening, in his own inimitable style.
And always – always! – before Page 2, he would tell me about some product or idea or service he had found that he was so impressed with that he wanted me to know about it. In fact, I even bought a WAHL shaver because my friend Paul told me they were so good.
And you know what? They were!
I feel this morning (March 1st) that the world is a little smaller, a little colder and a little poorer today for the loss of Paul Harvey.
Because of how he presented himself, I felt I had things in common with your Dad. He made me think he was just like me, a “Common Man”. But as much as I might or might not have had in common with him (I knew his brother – in – law, Bill Stanek in Osage Beach, MO), I now have something in common with you too, Mr. Harvey. My father passed away on February 28th, 1999.
I was pleased to see that Mr. Harvey Sr. was surrounded by his family when he passed from this world. May you find peace at this time of sorrow.
And to Mr. Paul Harvey, may you rest in peace, sir, and....
